Our guest today has chosen to remain anonymous for reasons he himself can best explain, but I can tell you this much:
He has been involved in the IAOPSCRD since the 1950’s and is one of the oldest and longest serving paid up members of that organisation.
Tell me, just what does the acronym IAOPSCRD mean? It seems a bit long winded.
Those initials stand for the International Association of Professional Shopping Cart Racing Divers. We struggled to find the shortest possible name for our group that genuinely represented what we do.
And just what is that?
We race shopping carts. And we do so in countries around the world, therefore we are truly International.
I do not recall ever having seen any publicity about either your association or your sport. How do you explain that?
That’s quite simple. You see what we do is actively apposed by the natural racing venue controllers who have placed a gag on all outlets of publicity and in many countries have managed to get laws passed making our activities illegal.
Who are the ‘natural racing venue controllers’?
The shopping centres who own the parking lots where we race.
Does this have something to do with why you chose to remain anonymous?
Of course! What I do for a living, all be it a modest one, is illegal in this very country. I risk punishment by fines and even being jailed every time I race. Almost every member of the association has been persecuted for their activities on the circuit.
Why? What possible harm can you be causing?
The blame for this outrageous treatment lies entirely with the big grocery store chains. They assert that we are using their shopping carts for purposes for which they are not intended, have caused damage to their property, and encouraged others to engage in conduct which is dangerous.
And is there any truth in their claims.
Only to the extent that certain rogue elements, NOT members of the IAOPSCRD, have been guilty of misusing the carts.
